Resto Spotlight: Industriel Urban Farm

photo credit: industriel farm

Industriel Urban Farm is such a little gem in DTLA (downtown los angeles).  My bestie chose this spot for her birthday dinner and it was surely a fun and tasty night of celebration.  The food is amazing, but the decor is even more lovely and comfy.  Downstairs is decorated with reclaimed wood tables, vintage crates, french cafe inspired bright red chairs, and tufted gold leather booths along the wall. Upstairs, you dine under a low beamed ceiling in comfy leather or fabric upholstered armchairs with a vibrant bar scene cranking out classic cocktails with an urban twist.  I can say I really enjoyed sitting upstairs.

Resto Spotlight: SOTTO...

photo credit: laweekly

Over the weekend, my friend Jen and I tried a new resto called Sotto.  My Dad went a couple of days before me and raved about how great the food and ambiance was.  So, when Jen said, "let's try something new"  I knew just where to go! I made a reservation with ease on a Friday which was great! I was the first one there and they sat me right away at a quaint table for two.  The ambiance was warm, room dimly lit with candles flickering and reflecting off the crisp clean wine glasses.  I was instantly relaxed and ready for girls night out.  We had the best waiter by the name of Skylar.  Rarely, do you find great customer service when out to dine lately, so this was refreshing.  While I waited, I ordered a cocktail called Pass the Buck, very fresh and tasty.  Once Jen arrived, we ordered some mixed olives to start, a couple of glasses of wine, Margarita and Diavolina pizza, and I ordered a Pumkin, Barley, Kale, and White Bean Minestra soup.  Best soup I've had in a long time.  Every bite was yummy!  We continued our girl chat and enjoyed every bite, food was amazing!

I didn't take pics due the dim lighting in the restaurant.  So, here are some photos I found on their site as well as others...

Marinated mixed olives {chilies, parsley, orange}

Margherita {tomato, mozzarella, basil, EVOO}

Great ambiance, service, and food...I'm going back to Sotto real soon.  Hopefully this Friday!

Straight Up, On the Rocks...

Comment amiez-vous votre cocktail? (How do you like your cocktail?)  I'm an "on the rocks" girl! :) Since it's the end of the work week,  I thought I would share a couple of cocktails I came across in the May issue of Bon Appetit...Cava Sangria and the perfect Agave Margarita! Both are great for a Summer party, and hopefully we will be ready for a late Summer housewarming.  I'm thinking tapas and cocktails...Voila!

Cava Sangria

1 orange, preferably blood or Cara Cara, sliced
2 tablespoons Grand Marnier or other orange liqueur
1 teaspoon rose water
1 750-ml bottle chilled brut cava

**Rose water is available at some supermarkets and at specialty foods stores and Middle Eastern markets.**

Using a muddler or the handle of a wooden spoon, mash first 3 ingredients in a large pitcher. Add cava; stir gently to combine.  Fill wineglasses with ice. Divide sangria among glasses.

Agave Margarita
Kosher salt
2 lime slices or wedges
1/4 cup tequila blanco
2 tablespoons agave syrup (nectar)
2 tablespoons fresh lime juice

Pour some kosher salt into a small dish. Rub 1 lime slice over half the rim of an Old Fashioned glass (if you prefer your Margarita on the rocks) or a coupe glass (if you prefer it up). Dip rim of glass into salt.  Combine tequila, agave syrup, and juice in a cocktail shaker; fill with ice and shake well. Strain into prepared glass. Garnish with second lime slice.

Make it a Jalapeno Margarita...
Muddle 2 thin rounds jalapeno with agave syrup in a cocktail shaker until peppers begin to fall apart.  For a less spicy version, remove the seeds first. Continue with recipe.

Resto Spotlight: M Street Kitchen

Last weekend the hubby and I met one of our fav couples and their sweet bundle of joy for dinner. They were visiting from DC and it was their 2nd Anniversary. I picked M Street Kitchen(use to be La Grande Orange)for it's great ambiance and energy as well as for the simple and healthy menu.  We started off dinner with a Basil-Lime Gimlet, which was the special cocktail of the night. I finally got my chance to try one...very smooth and tasty!

Basil-Lime Gimlet
Dixie Pan-Fried Chicken
Lately, I've been craving some fried fish, so I settled for the fried chicken which was good with coleslaw on the side.  I think the coleslaw was the highlight for me. Love me some coleslaw!

Turkey Meatloaf w/Mushroom Gravy
The hubby had the meatloaf.  It was ok, but I like mine better and so does he. I forgot to take a photo of the fish tacos our friends had.  I think they said it was ok!  The food at M Street Kitchen is a bit on the bland side.  Not much spice, but it is still good. Just have to know what to order. I know for a fact they have a slammin' burger and the sushi is a hit also. Ever had a sweet potato roll? Very tasty! I will be going back soon! At least for that tasty Basil-Lime Gimlet.  That just might be my new drink.

Live Well and Eat Well!

And I'm off and running...
